MORT A. DIAMOND M.D.
2002 Physician Recognition Award
Dr. Mort Diamond, M.D., was honored this year by the FAPA Board of Directors and given the 2002
Physician Recognition Award. Dr. Diamond is well known in FAPA for his many fine lecture presentations
at recent FAPA conferences. The prestigious award was presented to Dr. Diamond at the President's Reception
at the FAPA Winter Symposium and Recertification Review Course on February 22nd held in Orlando.
This award is given annually by the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. The Award recognizes a physician
whose qualities of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to quality care exemplify the physician/physician
assistant team concept. Nominees may be either MDs or DOs working in the State of Florida who have knowledge and show
support of the PA concept through direct professional involvement; have directly contributed to PA professional
growth through formal or informal association with physician assistants in current medical practice; set high standards
of conduct and ethical behavior in patient care; and have distinguished himself/herself as highly supportive of
the PA profession through his or her performance and contribution to the physician/PA team concept. Dr. Diamond has exhibited
all of these qualities and more in his association with the PA profession.
Dr. Diamond is a well known cardiologist who has been in practice in South Florida for a number of years. His professional service
included membership on the Board of Governors at Hollywood Memorial Hospital, including Chief of Medicine and Chief
of Staff. He was on the clinical faculty at the University of Miami School of Medicine and has made numerous presentations
at cardiology conferences. After retiring in 1994 he was asked to become Interim Medical Director at the Nova Southeastern University
PA Program which later became a permanent position. He lectures extensively at FAPA and AAPA meetings and has been very well
received for his informative and well presented lectures. He has been active in authoring chapters in cardiology for editions
of Primary Care for Physician Assistants.
He is very active in state and national cardiology associations. He states his primary goal has been to increase the
participation of physician assistants in the team care of cardiac patients. He was instrumental in FAPA participating
last year in the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. He has been working closely with the FAPA leadership
in legislative and educational matters. He has been a very vocal proponent for the physician - PA team concept. For his efforts in
our behalf, the FAPA Board of Directors voted to present Dr. Diamond with the Physician Recognition Award for 2002. Dr. Diamond
expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the award at the reception when he was presented with his plaque from FAPA
President Jayne Mittan.
