2003 BOB SCULLY PA OF THE YEAR

On August 8, 2203 at the Annual Membership Meeting in St. Pete Beach, PHILIP T. NIX, MPAS, PA-C of Pembroke Pine, Florida, was awarded the Bob Scully PA of the Year Award for 2003 by the FAPA Board of Directors. The award is sponsored by Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and Mr. Michael Friedman from Novartis was on hand at the meeting to present Phil with this well deserved award. Phil is currently an ER Physician Assistant working with the Emergency Department at Baptist Hospital of Miami since 1995. He is both a MPAS graduate from the University of Nebraska, and a PA graduate from St. Louis University School of Allied Health Professions. He also has a BS in Health education from Eastern Illinois University. Phil is an A.T.L.S. Provider, P.A.L.S. Provider, and A.C.L.S. Instructor. He's been NCCPA certified since 1983. His professional and volunteer commitments make him an outstanding candidate for this FAPA honor. Phil is a Medical Officer for the South Florida Regional Disaster Medical Assistance Team, and was deployed to 2001 Presidential Inaugural, Wash. D.C. While serving DMAT, he was previously deployed to the Hurricane Iniki Disaster in Kauai, Hawaii 1992. He is steadfastly committed to volunteerism and serving his country through DMAT. Phil is also very conscious of his responsibilities to the profession and association service. He is currently President of the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants and formerly served on the Board of Directors as Southeast Regional Director. This is the second time he has been president of this organization and is also a founding member of SEMPA (1992). As a leader in the PA community, Phil has demonstrated great skill and dedication. Additionally, Phil is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. Overall, Phil Nix is an active member of the PA community in South Florida, mentor to student and new professionals, dedicated to developing the PA concept in Florida, and a consummate PA professional. Congratulations Phil on your selection as the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants, Bob Scully PA of the Year Award for 2003.
