Federation Credentials Verification Service
Physician Assistants Now Have a Place to Store Their Credentials - For Life
Dallas - The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) has launched a new service that verifies credentials for physician assistants, as well as keeping them in its repository for life.
This new service, which already provides a repository for physicians, now allows physician assistants to keep their credentials in the Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS), establishing a confidential, lifetime professional portfolio that can be forwarded at the physician assistant's request to any interested party.
At the request of the PA, FCVS will collect and verify core credentials, including identity, education, training, examination and disciplinary history, and make it available to licensing authorities, managed care plans, or hospitals.
The cost of the service is $145 for initial verification and mailing of credentials and $35 for each subsequent set of credentials mailed.
"This services works just as well for physician assistants as it does for physicians," said Kevin Caldwell, Director of FCVS. "Plus, our track record of keeping credentials on more than 25,000 physicians over the past five years shows that we are committed to this service."
FCVS also allows physician assistants to log onto the FSMB Web site, www.fsmb.org ,
to check the status of their profile in real time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"This service is perfect for new PAs and mid-career PAs because neither of them will have to worry about keeping up with their credentials or what to do if the school where they obtained their education closes," Caldwell said. "The credentials are safe with us. Additionally, the credentials that FCVS obtains are considered acceptable for licensure purposes nationally."

Webmaster's Note: The Florida Boards of Medicine are among those that recognize this service for PAs.
