In Memorial Project
by Ron Pace, PA-C
One of the things that we as humans typically do not like to deal
with is our own mortality. Even those of us in the health care field are like that. We can
deal with our patients' mortality as the professionals we are trained to be. But when it
comes to our own personal life and death issues we tend to deny it, ignore it, gloss over
it, or not deal with it at all - just like everyone else, simply because we too, are
human.
While attending the last few meetings of our PA
profession, I have noted something. We are a diverse group in many respects now; sex, race,
age, and culturally. Have you noted as I have the vast age range of the folks in our
profession? Our profession is over thirty-five years old now and thus quite a few of our
colleagues are getting to be of a "more mature" age group. In the next five to ten years a larger
significant percentage of our profession will be in that age
range. Many of us will begin to contemplate the retirement scenarios in our future.
After discussing this with members of the Board several years ago, FAPA established
a section on the website to provide a memorial for our colleagues who
have died. You will find it in the "Who's Who in FAPA" section. It is entitled simply, "In Memoriam".
It includes the names of those Physician Assistants who have died, year of birth and death, and a link
to a brief article annotating important facts about their life and career, and especially
any contributions to the PA profession. As of April 20, 2005 we have twelve names of entries on the
"In Memoriam" website page. Here is a quick link to the page.
In Memoriam
This is where I will need the assistance of the FAPA membership. I cannot do this one by myself.
I know there are a couple of other folks who have died in recent years but we do not have information
to include on the website. Memorial Day 2005 is just around the corner and we would like to get this
portion of the website update by the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Please review the site and if you
know of someone who has died and we need to include them on our site, you can and should submit a
written article about the person, or send us a copy of their obituary notice. If you have a picture, we can be include
that as well. If you do not have a digital photo in jpeg format, you can send a photo that
we can scan and use. If you need it returned advise me so. If you do not have the information contact a family
member and get them to get in touch with me.
Thank you for your assistance. Send the information to me as soon as possible. My contact information is:
