PA Formulary Bill Passes Florida Legislature

We are happy to report the great news that HB 989, our legislative bill removing the restrictions for PAs to prescribe antipsychotics and parenterals, just passed the legislature! It is now on to Governor Crist for signing.

FAPA extends a very special THANK YOU to our legislative consultants, Juhan, Pat and Corinne Mixon, as well as all PAs and physicians out there who took the time to call or write their legislators, meet their legislators at home, or travel to Tallahassee. We also thank the Board of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, PA Council, the FOMA and the FMA for their support. The PA Profession in Florida owes you all a great debt of gratitude as this law, when official, will open access to care for many of our patients.

More information will follow as we await the Governor's signature.

FAPA recently learned of the passing of a PA Pioneer in our state. Take a look at Vice President Keith Bailey's article remembering this great man for his contributions to the PA Profession in Florida.

Past President John Bishop passes on this message to remind all practicing PAs to review the latest Medicare coding and billing update, which is effective June 2008. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued revised CMS-855 Medicare enrollment applications in March 2008. With the exception of providers enrolling as a specialty hospital on the CMS-855A, Medicare contractors will continue to accept the 2006 version of the Medicare enrollment application through June 2008. Providers and suppliers should begin to use the new Medicare enrollment applications immediately. Initially, these applications will be available only from the CMS provider enrollment web site.
