PA PROGRAM NEWS

[November 2011] The Classes of 2012 and 2013 at the Nova SWFL PA Program are in the midst of a community service project called Project Seed this winter. It is a health fair event offering vitals, glucose readings, nutrition counseling, and giving away sunglasses, bikes, and gift cards. Click on the logo above to learn more, or go to www.theprojectseed.org.

Florida PA Students put aside their books for a worthy cause at the 2011 FAPA Summer Conference. Each FAPA Winter and Summer Conference, students elect a charity to collect donations for. This summer, students chose The Lodge, a shelter for victims of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault in Miami-Dade County. Donating literally a truckload of supplies ranging from diapers and toys to women’s clothing and kitchen necessities, the outpouring of support was greatly appreciated by The Lodge. Thank you again to all the students who participated!!

PA Students got down and dirty at the First Annual PA Games hosted by Barry University. The "wacky Olympics" style games were held on August 13th 2011 at Haulover Beach. Students participated in events such as Tug-Of-War, a Water Sponge relay, Limbo, Frisbee golf and even a Photo Scavenger Hunt! After tabulating the scores, the winner of the First Annual PA Games was the students at Barry Miami Shores. Congratulations! All proceeds collected for the event will go to the charity of their choice. We can’t wait for the Second Annual Games next summer in Marco Island!

NSU SW Florida Updates

Miami Dade PA Program Wins 4th Consecutive FAPA Challenge Bowl

In another dramatic and exciting FAPA Challenge Bowl, during the 2010 FAPA Winter Conference, the team from Miami Dade College's 2nd Year PA Class re-iterated their dominance in our state competition by emerging victorious again. For the 4th consecutive time, Miami Dade is the FAPA Challenge Bowl Champion. Since the inception of the FAPA competition in 2007, Miami Dade has won each year. This year featured a Finale with two teams from Miami Dade facing off against a 1st year team from Barry University Miami Shores PA Program. In a nail biting competition that went down to the final question, the Miami Dade team of Natalie Colome, Jannel Martinez, and Xaviar Varela came through with the victory.

Once again, the Challenge Bowl had a packed audience full of enthusiasm and bearing signs, costumes and tons of school spirit. A record 8 programs submitted teams for this year's FAPA Challenge Bowl. Everyone did a wonderful job this year and made their respective programs proud. They will all have to wait another year to dethrone the champions though. CONGRATULATIONS MIAMI DADE!
